Grandfather / Longcase clocks in restoration


We own the following clocks which are either just awaiting photography or, more likely, awaiting or undergoing restoration. Expressions of interest can greatly influence the order in which we restore them.

Dumville Alderley

This is our 3rd or 4th Dumville - they keep coming to find us! This one dates to c1760, brass dial in an oak cottage case with mahogany cross banding. 12.25" dial. About 6'6" tall (so very compact for an C18th Longcase)

Brass dial, rolling moon to the arch, centre date and wait for it....centre seconds. Mahogany case with banded door. 8' tall. Picture to follow.

We've already sold two by him, so he's becoming a bit of a favourite!. This one is c1835 in a mahogany veneered case. 8-day movement, striking on a bell. Just requiring light restoration. 221cm tall.

Whitehurst Derby Cased Wall Clock

A simple pine cased example of these unusual but sought after clocks by the well known Whitehurst family in Derby. In a stained pine 'long' case. 8-day timepiece (ie non striking) movement. This example is dated 1835.

The clock shown sold from this 'coming soon' list before we had time to restore it, but we've just acquired a similar one with an architectural top.
A classic version of the clocks made by this sought after maker. Classic simple style favoured by Whitehurst which has stood the test of time so well. Honey coloured oak case.

Rare Gateshead 8-day Longcase by G Armstrong of Gateshead

We don't see many Longcases from the North East. This is good original example from Gateshead c1815. Oak Case, attractive painted dial. Not much more work required. Sorry for terrible photo!!.

30 hr Eli Stancliffe, Honley with Axe-Head Moon

c1770. Almost certainly the work of Thomas Lister. Good, quite early 30 hour example. Honley is between Holmfirth & Huddersfield. 199cm tall. Work reasonably advanced!!.
