Description of the item This is an nice original example of these large German made clocks. Its not certain if this model was made for commercial (ie office) or domestic use. The 8-day movement 'ting-tang' strikes each quarter hour on two gongs. Each hour it strikes the number of hours on a single gong. The clock can be silenced by turning a small hand on the dial.
The oak case is carved and incised and has excellent colour. The brass dial has gilded spandrels, silvered chapter rings and blued steel hands. Dimensions: 44cm tall; 30.5cm wide; 20.2cm deep.

| Information about the maker Winterhalder & Hoffmier were prolific makers of clocks in the late 19th and early 20th C. They were particularly strong in the English market, because their clocks followed the English style and methods. They were based in the Black Forest area of Germany.
We estimate this clock was made approx 1890.
