Description of the item
A lovey genuine school clock with provable heritage. It hung in the Price St School in Birkenhead around 1915 to at least 1966 (which we believe is currently called Our Lady & St Edwards RC Primary). Very attractive oak cased clock, fully restored with photographic record. Retains plenty of character.
Interesting movement with 'maintaining power'.
Ready to enjoy.

Information about the maker
William Pyke and Sons Ltd. were established in 1877 and described themselves as "Watchmakers to the Admiralty". Based in Birkenhead, the company still trades today (and is still owned by the Pyke family). I would guess that they just retailed rather than made the clock. We know for sure that they went onto maintain it for at least 50 years,
Dimensions & Specification
Solid oak surround and back-box, which has two side doors and a locking bottom door. Spun brass bezel with silvered sight-ring. Blued steel hands.
Excellent quality 8-day fusee movement with shaped pillars. Unusually it has 'maintaining power' which improves accuracy by keeping the clock going whilst it is wound.
Overall dia. is 406mm, depth (total inc glass) approx. 163mm

Condition Report
Fully restored and ready for sale. The dial has been restored (rather than fully repainted). It maintains plenty of character visible in the larger photos. (I can send even larger). The case and bezel has been restored to match. It will suit someone who wants their clock to look like an antique, but confident that it is a good as new underneath.
I have plenty of photographs which record the restoration. The 'BEC' (Birkenhead Education Committee) lettering to the dial had been rubbed out, (probably when the clock was decommissioned) but the shadow was discovered by the dial restorer.
Cost of Restoration

Non required.
