Description of the item

A rare Masonic example of these popular '5-glass' mercury barometers. Of elegant form with well chosen veneers and double stringing to the edge. The square base indicates it was one of the first 5-glass types. Very original throughout. 8" dial with the 'Compass and square' and another Masonic symbol. Signed level plate. Spirit thermometer, cast brass bezel.

Information about the maker

Edwin Banfield's 'Barometer Makers & Retailers 1600-1900' lists Joseph Ronchetti as a Watchmaker (and barometer retailer) in 11 Parliament St. from 1837-66. (He also lists the same name in nearby Scarborough from 1858-66, who we assume is the same man).
Condition Report

Sensitively restored it to its former glory. Fully prepared, ready to hang and enjoy.

Above the dial is a convex mirror, which we have to blank-out in the photographs, otherwise you just see me taking the photograph.
