Description of the item
An attractive and elegant 'Sheraton' mahogany mercury barometer from the Regency period (early C 19th) Very original throughout. 8" signed dial. Of excellent quality typical of this period with good veneers, double stringing. Oval shell and round floral paterae. Red spirit thermometer, cast brass bezel.

| Information about the maker
Edwin Banfield's 'Barometer Makers & Retailers 1600-1900' lists Agnew & Zanetti in Exchange Street Manchester (as per this dial) from 1826-34 (Numbers 10 then 18). They were also at 94 Market St (1825-26). It was a partnership between Thomas Agnew and Joseph Zanetti which ran for 9 years before they went on to run individual businesses. They are recoreded as being Optcians, carvers, gilders and print sellers.
