Description of the item
With a dial substantially larger than the usual 8", this barometer makes a large impact. A very elegant design from the late Regency period, just before the designs started to get more flamboyant. Very original throughout. 10" dial, signed level plate. Good veneers and double stringing. Mercury thermometer, cast brass bezel.

| Information about the maker
Edwin Banfield's 'Barometer Makers & Retailers 1600-1900' lists an N Negretti & Co in Liverpool from 1830 to 1855. Probably related to Henry Negretti who came to London in 1830 from Italy and went on to form the famous partnership with JW Zambra. The design of the barometer is consistent with those from 1820, which may indicates Banfield's dates are incomplete.
