Description of the item
This is a very fine Regency period mercury banjo by the celebrated maker John Merry Ronketti. c1810. Referred to as 'Sheraton' barometers, this one has unusual 'chequer' stringing. Well figured mahogany veneers with the usual shell inlays. The horizontally cross banded sides and short neck means this is one of the earlier Shearton barometers. The 8" dial is signed Peter St, Bloomsbury (London). A very high quality instrument.
Dimensions: Length 43"; Width 10"
