Description of the item
A huge wall clock which was probably once served as a 'gallery' clock. (ie built into a galleried landing and wound from behind). It appears to have had an OAK backbox made 70+ years ago and can now be hung (conventionally) on a wall and wound from the front.
Clocks as big as this are so rare we rarely turn them down. Rather than oblitrate and 'correct' this clock's history, I've chosen to list it 'as-is' to offer the rare opporunity of a huge C19th dial clock at a 'modest' price.

Condition Report

The clock is in full working order. The case and dial is in unrestored but perfectly usuable condition (many customers want their clocks to have 'character'). The mahogany surround has had some 'stress' splits (very common when surrounds are made in 1 piece) but is perfectly sound. The dial has 'character' as shown in the photos. The worst rub at the bottom could be improved a little without starting a full restore. Movement running strongly.
Cost of Restoration

I believe it makes best sense to sell this clock in 'unrestored but working order'. Restored clocks of this size without this one's history retail at £2000, so selling it as-is makes it much more affordable.
If a customer wanted it fully restoring and a magogany backbox making - it can all be done but would start to get expensive.
