Description of the item
This is a very nice example of an very well made English Dial clock which has survived in original unrestored condition. The 10" dial clocks are quite rare. This one retains the George V Cypher and crown with the GPO lettering beneath. Quality mahogany case retaining the original finish. |

| Information about the maker
The whole clock is unsigned by the manufacturer but the stamp on the back reveals it was made by Stockall Marples & Co. Not much is known about the company but they made excellent quality clocks with seemingly very little regard for the cost of materials. The information that is available puts them right in the reign of King George V (1901 to 1936) whose cypher appears on the dial.

Dimensions & Specification
Made using the very best materials. 3 piece mahogany surround and solid mahogany backbox held in the traditional manner with 4 pegs (which may be replacements). Original spun brass bezel with silvered clip-in sight ring. 8-day movement with solid brass plates, solid pinions. Numbered 23759. Original blued steel hands.
The overall diameter is approx 13.5 inches, 10 inch dial. |

| Condition Report
We bought the clock in untouched condition and have given the dial a very light clean (no paint or ink used) and have cleaned and waxed the case. It therefore has signs of use and age but is clean and tidy enough for most applications. The bezel retains its original dark finish which we believe is factory applied. The movement was dirty so it has been cleaned and overhauled, ready for sale. It is rare to find clocks in such good unrestored condition. |

I would recomend the clock is bought and enjoyed in its current condition, as it is rare to find such an clean unrestored case and dial. If the purchaser particularly wants any work doing (such as some repolishing of the case), we'd be able to do that at extra cost. |
