Description of the item

Super & attractive clock of perhaps average quality but with above average looks & appeal! This is a good example of a late 19th C fusee wall clock which is capable of great accuracy and requiring winding once a week. The mahogany (might just be walnut) case has excellent colour & patination, and the dial has a lovely faded look.

Information about the maker

We believe that the name on the dial is that of the clock's retailer, rather than its maker. There is a 'Fitzwilliam Sparling Dunnett' of Southend listed in the trade directories.

Dimensions & Specification

Good quality wooden surround made in quarters. Back box with cock-beaded side & bottom doors. The 12" painted dial carryies the original brass movement with 'shaped shoulders' are both original to this case. Bezel of spun brass.

The overall diameter is approx 38cm, 16cm deep.

Condition Report

The clock is in lovely condition & ready to be hung on your wall. The case is clean but with beautiful patination. The painted dial retains the original ground and blackwork. It has a few small nibbles to the centre, some of the black work is rubbed and the varnish has yellowed in places (all very desirable!). The 2nd small photo best captures the colour. At one time the clock has hung with the hinge to the left, which explains the spare holes in the side of the backbox (see photo left). I'm happy to explain this fully in more detail, but there is nothing sinister at all. The movement is clean, showing little wear and running accurately to time. We can give the movement a full overhaul at additional cost, but it is frankly unnecessary.

Cost of Restoration
