Description of the item

Just in but only requiring a little work, so I decided to list it now. Photographed unrestored and dirty. Super and very large clock which spent almost all its life hanging in the hall of Nields School Slaithwaite near Huddersfield. 16" dial and broad solid oak case. In really original condition. The clock came to us via an employee at the School.

Information about the maker

Dyson & Sons were famous for selling jewellery and clocks from thier landmark shop in Leeds (now a restaurant). The company was started by John Dyson who set up shop on Briggate in Leeds in 1865. He installed a large clock on the front of the building, which has been a Leeds landmark ever since. He died in 1916 and business was continued by his sons and grandsons.

We believe they manufactured their own dial clocks, but are doing further research (help appreciated!)

Dimensions & Specification

Solid oak quartered frame. Spun bezel. 8-day Chain fusee movement, signed and numbered,

16" dial. Other sizes to be confirmed.

Condition Report

All the components are original and has come to us in very good condition - consistent with the fact it hung in one place for the majority of its life. The dial has a great patina which will be kept. The case and bezel will be finished inkeeping with the dial. Movement will be cleaned and serviced prior to sale.

Cost of Restoration

Underway. Will be sold in full retail condition. It will much brighter than the photos show, but will keep its aged appearance.
