Description of the item
A nice example of these popular (because they strike) wall clocks. Beyond these models, you'll need to spend well over £1000 to get a striking drop-dial clock (which would be with a fusee movement). These clocks were imported into Britain at the turn of the 19th / 20th century and were very popular. This example has a warm, (towards red) coloured walnut (possibly rosewood) veneered case and is fully prepared for sale.

Information about the maker
The Seth Thomas Clock Company was one of the most prolific and long lived clock companies. The quality of their products was always maintained at an above average level. Seth Thomas was born in Connecticut in 1785, and worked for initially for Eli Thomas. He set up his own factory in Plymouth Hollow in1813. He died in 1859 and the business was continued by his sons; the town being renamed Thomaston in his honour.

Dimensions & Specification
The 8-day open spring movement is of usual Seth Thomas design. (They are generally regarded as the best of the American mass produced movements). It has been recently cleaned and we've checked and oiled-it. It strikes (counts) the hour 'on the hour' on a coiled gong. The brass spun bezel retains the original glass & sight ring and covers the replaced painted 12" dial.

The overall height is 682mm tall, 410mm wide and 135mm deep.
