Description of the item This is a really rare & impressive clock by a well known London maker & retailer. Almost 1metre tall in total, it is superbly constructed of the very best materials, and would have been very expensive in its day. The bottom part of the bracket is detachable, allowing the clock to be table or plinth mounted. John Bennett (later 'Sir') was a famous and flamboyant London retailer, about who we have a lot of information. |

| Information about the maker Sir John Bennett was a very successful Clock Watch & Jewelry maker in London. His building in Cheapside stood 5 stories tall. The front of his shop was so famous it was dismantled and rebuit in America. He was at Cheapside from 1846 to 1889 and was knighted in 1872 and signed his clocks accordingly; so this clock dates between 1846 to 1872. |
