Description of the item
A guaranteed genuine railway clock dating to c1890 and wearing its 1948 Nationalised dial design. Its Arabic numerals and 24 hour makings mean this is ideally (and almost uniquely) suited to clients seeking to match a genuine antique with a Deco / mid C20th inspired home. They are also great for teaching children to tell the time! Excellent colour and patination to the case which has polished-up like conker. All fully prepared for sale and ready to enjoy.

Information about the maker
Although it is unsigned, we believe this clock was made by John Smith and Sons of Derby. They supplied many clocks to several of the pre-grouped railway companies. We bought the clock privately and the accompanying 'family story' was that it was from the Great Eastern Railway building works at Temple Mills (near the current Olympic site). Although the back of the case carries two additional numbers (Pre and Post grouping), the exact location in which the clock served can't be confirmed.
Dimensions & Specification
Multi section mahogany case with excellent patination. Twin side doors and locking bottom door. Iron painted dial with the post-Nationalisation dial layout and numbering.
8-day wire driven fusee movement with rivited pillars. Original painted brass hands with (Smith's heart shape to the hour hand).
Dimensions to be confirmed but approx 16" diameter and 7" deep.
