Description of the item
Genuine railway clocks command premium prices and are (unfortunately) subject to much faking. This is guaranteed to be a genuine British Rail Southern Region clock. It would have been one of the last mechanical fusee clocks purchased by the railways c1957.
Sorry about the intrusive copyright marks to the photos, but they are necessary to prevent forgeries. |

| Information about the maker
The movement appears unsigned (apart from its serial number and 'Made in England') but we understand these last batches of clocks were supplied by Stockall Marples & Co of Clerkenwell at the grand cost of £13.43 each. (from Ian Lyman's book, available from this site) |

Dimensions & Specification
These later clocks were manufactured to more of a budget than the earlier clocks, but they are still massively over-engineered in true British tradition. The case is made from solid oak, apart from a panel in the back-box which is plywood (as manufactured). 12" painted steel dial. 8-day solid brass and steel fusee movement (numbered), driven by a wire line. Spun brass bezel with clip-in silvered sight-ring.
The overall diameter is approx 39cm, 15cm deep. |
